Who Is It That Would Not Weep? 
 Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater Through the Eyes of the Modern American Mother â€‹

Join musicians John Bitsas, Hannah Carlson, Carlo Mauricio, Mira Williams, Ha-Eun Ryu, and Alex Ullman for a musical retaliation against gun violence in America. Through Pergolesi’s stunning masterpiece Stabat Mater and with choreography by Boston-based dancer and trans woman of color Lilly Rose Valore, the story of the Crucifixion will be set in modern America amid fears of school shootings and police brutality. A significant portion of ticket sales will be donated to the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute in order to aid in their mission of healing for families and communities impacted by murder, trauma, grief, and loss.

Greek-American countertenor John Bitsas is a recent graduate of The Boston Conservatory, where he received his Masters of Music in Opera Performance. He is passionate about concert work and has been a soloist in Orff's Carmina Burana, Mozart's Requiem, Bach's Magnificat, Schubert’s Mass in G, Bach Cantatas 113 and 94, Handel’s Messiah, Duruflé’s Requiem, Handel’s Utrecht Te Deum and Jubilate Deo, Beethoven’s Fantasia in C minor, Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, and Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb. He has sung with Boston Opera Collaborative, Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre, Crested Butte Opera Studio, and Emmanuel Music.

Hannah Carlson is an up and coming Boston-based soprano and a recent graduate of the Boston Conservatory where she completed her Master of Music in Vocal Performance. Recent stage appearances include Musetta in La Bohème, Soprano 2 in Hydrogen Jukebox, Gretel in Hansel & Gretel, Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, and the cover of Blanche in Dialogues des Carmélites. Ms. Carlson also frequents the new music scene, and has been heard recently as the soprano soloist in “Labyrinth of Love” by Michael Daugherty, "Shell & Wing" by David Biedenbender, and "William Blake Rhapsody," by Boston composer David Wallace.

Carlo Mauricio has performed in solo, chamber music, and orchestral programs in the United States and abroad with ensembles such as the Davidov String Quartet, Boston Opera Collaborative, Woodlands Symphony Orchestra, and the Houston Ballet Orchestra. He has performed at the InterHarmony International Music Festival as well as the renowned Classical Music Festival at the Estrházy Palace in Austria. A multi-faceted musician, he is the assistant conductor of the M.I.T. Concert Choir under Dr. William Cutter.

Ha-eun Ryu began violin at the Preucil School of Music, attended the Interlochen Arts Academy, obtained a BM in violin performance at Oberlin Conservatory, and an MM at the Boston Conservatory. She has won competitions, played in professional orchestras, performed with college faculty, soloed with orchestras, and won the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artists Award. Ha-eun has completed pedagogy courses in college and at the graduate level. Ha-eun is passionate about teaching out of a desire to help people express themselves and appreciate music on a deeper level. She is an active performer throughout the Boston area.

Mira Williams currently studies with Kim Kashkashian at New England Conservatory. Her quartet Highland Street, is a 2017/2018 NEC Honors Ensemble. With her string quartets Okemo, Lumière, and Vox, she won gold medals and additional prizes in the Fischoff, St. Paul National String Quartet Competition, the Society of American Musicians, Midwest Young Artists, Merit School of Music, and Rembrandt Chamber Players competitions. She is a Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award recipient and has performed on NPR’s From the Top. She has participated in masterclasses with Heidi Castleman, Jeffrey Irvine, Roberto Díaz, and Steven Tenenbom.

Alexander Ullman is a recent graduate of The Boston Conservatory, where he received his Graduate Performance Diploma in Cello Performance program. He is an avid performer of solo, orchestral, and chamber music. Alexander is passionate about teaching and his teaching philosophy puts a strong emphasis on mindfulness, which results in superb technical development and allows the student to make their musical mark on the works they perform. He currently teaches at the Boston String Academy, where he teaches music to students from underserved communities in the Greater Boston Area.

Lilly Rose Valore is a respected vogue instructor and has taught classes all over Massachusetts including classes at 4 Star dance studio, Boston Ballet, The Dance Company of Wilmington. She has also hosted choreography workshops in Rochester, New York, and North Carolina. As a performer and teacher Lilly specializes in Contemporary, Ballet, Modern, and Creative Process/Improvisational Work. She has worked with world-renowned choreographers such as Michelle Chasse, Earl Mosley, Desmond Richardson, Dwight Rhoden of complexions, and Brett Bell. Lilly recently received her B.F.A in Contemporary Dance Performance from the Boston Conservatory with an emphasis on ballet.
