Tianhui Ng: Music Director & Conductor

Tianhui Ng is Music Director of the Pioneer Valley Symphony, the Victory Players, a contemporary music ensemble supported by the Massachusetts International Festival of the Arts, and resident conductor of the Boston New Music Initiative. An advocate of new music, he has assisted in and premiered new works by Pulitzer and Rome Prize winners Curt Cacioppo, Aaron Jay Kernis, David Sanford, and Joan Tower among many others. Since his first opera, Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress at age 20, he has conducted many new works including unusual firsts like the first Nigerian opera in Yoruba, Irin Ajo in 2018. His passion for inter-disciplinary and intercultural music making has led to a rich array of work for ballet, film, theatre, installation art, modern dance, animation, sculpture and even sand painting, in a career that spans Europe, Asia and North America. In 2020, he looks forward to the culmination of a three-year commissioning project, El Puerto Rico, celebrating the musical heritage of Puerto Rico, a collaboration with White Snake Projects on Elena Ruehr's Cosmic Cowboy, and the restoration of Thomas de Hartmann's Piano Concerto.   

Andrea Huber: Stage Director

Singer-actress, director, presenter, teacher, American-born Andrea Huber, has been performing and living in Europe for almost 35 years. Roles include Violetta (La Traviata), Countess (Le Nozze di Figaro), Hanna (The Merry Widow), Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), Helene (La Belle Helene), Desiree (A Little Night Music), Julie (Showboat), Mame (Mame), and Kate (Kiss Me Kate!).


In addition to her singing career, Ms. Huber is an experienced stage director and teacher; shows include Sweeny Todd, Oliver and numerous musical reviews. For fourteen years, she taught voice and audition training at the American Institute for Musical Studies (AIMS in Graz) and served as Artistic Director for four of those years. 


Ms. Huber has performed in major opera houses throughout Europe, Ireland and the United States, appearing many times on Austrian television. During the 2018-2019 season, she performed at the Graz Opera as Hattie in Kiss Me Kate! and Molina’s Mother in Kiss of the Spider Woman in Baden bei Wien. In March 2020, she will perform the lead role in Weill’s The Seven Deadly Sins in Graz, where she resides. 

Patricia-Maria Weinmann: Co-Artistic Director

Patricia-Maria Weinmann has worked with many national opera companies and festivals including Utah Opera, Opera on the James, Syracuse Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Seagle Music Colony, Boston Lyric Opera, Central City Opera, Opera Boston, Ashlawn Opera Festival, the American Opera Project, Opera Providence, and Mississippi Grand Opera.  She has collaborated on a number of premier performances including Daniel Pinkham’s The Cask of Amontillado, the staged orchestral premier of Scott Wheeler’s The Construction of Boston and Wheeler’s Democracy as a work-in-progress for the American Opera Project in New York.  Recent directing engagements have included Miss Havisham’s Wedding Night, Hansel and Gretel, Cosi fan tutte, The Mikado, The Pirates of Penzance, Cole!, Cenerentola, Carmina Burana, L’elisir d’amore, Sweeney Todd, Don Pasquale and Faust and Marguerite (BOC). Over the past 20 years, Weinmann served on the faculties of both Boston Conservatory and the New England Conservatory of Music.  As a guest director and coach for Utah Opera’s Young Artist Program and a faculty member of American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria, she continues to train some of the most promising young singers in the United States and abroad. 

Greg Smucker: Co-Artistic Director

Greg Smucker is a director and teacher of theater and opera. He studied with the late Wesley Balk, a noted pioneer in the field of singer-actor training. Greg was co-founder and artistic director of 15 HEAD, a critically acclaimed experimental theater company in Minneapolis and served as managing director of Theatre for Young America in Kansas City, a professional theater for children. Greg served for seven years on the faculty of the Opera Studies Department at New England Conservatory of Music and is currently a faculty member of the American Institute for Musical Studies in Graz, Austria.  As a freelance director, Greg has directed productions and workshops for theaters and opera companies in Boston and the Twin Cities.

Ingrid Oslund: Assistant Director

Ingrid Oslund (She/Her/Hers) is a queer, feminist theater maker with the goal of creating bold, innovative experiences that excite and challenge audiences. She is a proud member of Director’s Lab Lincoln Center and the Stage Director and Choreographer’s Foundation Observership Class of 2018-2019. She has worked with Boston Opera Collaborative for 4 years as assistant director (Faust et Margurite), stage director (Misfortune, Always) choreographer (La Rondine) and Fight/Intimacy Designer (Don Giovanni). Her upcoming directing work includes 2 pieces in Opera Bites 2020, Grindr, the Opera and a new musical Dancing Princesses; A Riot Grrrl Fairy Tale.

Patricia Au: Vocal Coach

Widely known for her vivacious playing, Canadian collaborative pianist Patricia Au leads an active performing and coaching career. In the past several years, she has toured throughout North America and Europe performing opera and art songs. Currently based in Boston, she is part of the coaching staff at Boston Conservatory at Berklee, and New England Conservatory where she earned her Doctorate of Musical Arts specializing in Collaborative Piano. As a Resident Teaching Artist for Boston Lyric Opera, Patricia has a passion introducing young people to opera as a story telling art. Her doctoral thesis, “A New Edition of the Piano-Vocal Score of Jake Heggie’s To Hell and Back” is available through Bent Pen Music Inc. For more information: www.patriciaau.com / @au_patricia

Jorgeandres Camargo (Figaro)

Jorgeandrés Camargo, Bass, a native of Houston, Texas, holds performance degrees from Eastman School of Music and Boston University Opera Institute. Most recently he toured Italy and Switzerland as Il Gran Sacerdote in Nabucco with Orchestra Sinfonica Carlo Coccia. Previ- ously he was a resident bass in the Barbara and Halsey Sandford Studio Artist Program with Kentucky Opera where he premiered the role of Mephistopheles in Louisville Ballet’s ‘Project Faust’. Other local work includes Pagliacci and Paul Rudder’s The Handmaid’s Tale with Boston Lyric Opera. Previous roles include Pistola in Falstaff, Leprello in Don Giovanni, Don Alfonso in Cosí fan tutte, Bartolo in Le Nozze di Figaro, Kecal in The Bartered Bride, Geronimo in Il matri- monial segreto, Capitan in Florencia en el Amazonas, Pandolfe in Cendrillon, Prophet/King in Dark Sisters, Judge in The Trial of B.B.Wolf, Quince in A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Roy Cohn in Angels in America. He can also be heard on the Sound Mirror recording of Blitzstein's The Cradle Will Rock. He has previously worked with Ojai Music Festival, CoOperative, Crested Butte Music Festival, Opera Breve, First Coast Opera, American Lyric Theater, and Opera Saratoga. 

Shengjie Cheng (Count Cover)

Baritone Shengjie Cheng is a music lover, a singer and a story teller. Shengjie believes music is a tool is communicate with people, and to share the stories and emotions. Currently he studies with Jeffery Mattsey.

 

Shengjie Cheng recieved his Undergraduate Degree in Shanghai University. He then was awarded his Master Degree From Longy School of Music of Bard College, and is continuing his study for his GPD Degree. 

Junhan Choi (Count)

 Praised for his “splended baritone voice, rich and rounded”, baritone Junhan Choi, a native of South Korea, is an active opera singer. In the 2018-2019 season, engagements included his role as Tideo in Medea in Corinto, Roggiero in Tancredi rifatto, and Valdeburgo(cover) in La Straniera with Teatro Nuovo in the capacity of Resident Artist, title role Don Giovanni, Marcello in La Boheme with Boston Opera Collaborative, title role Don Giovanni with North End Music and Performing Arts Center and Escamillo with Opera51.

 He was prized Gold Medal from Berliner International Music Competition in 2018 and he was awarded extraordinary prize at the 54th Viñas international voice competition 2017 in Barcelona. As a first prize recipient of 2017 Talents of the World International Voice Competition, he made his Carnegie Hall debut for ‘Tribute to Dmitri Hvorostovsky’ concert as a baritone soloist. He also won first place in 2017 MetroWest Opera’s Vocal Competition.

Carley DeFranco (Susanna)

Known for her "warm, supple soprano” and “virtuosic roulades” (Boston Musical Intelligencer), Carley DeFranco has quickly become one of Boston’s in-demand soloists.  Her 2018-19 season brought two thrilling fellowships with Emmanuel Music (Lorraine Hunt Lieberson Fellow) and the American Bach Soloists Festival. Carley’s current season with Emmanuel Music includes her BachFest Leipzig début, her Tanglewood début in Kurt Weill’s Firebrand of Florence, the Mass in B Minor and regular appearances in their Bach Cantata Series. A frequent guest of orchestras and opera companies alike, Carley has performed with the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra (Mozart Requiem), North Carolina Master Chorale (Handel Alexander’s Feast), Providence Singers (A Night at the Opera Gala), Arlington Philharmonic Orchestra (Gounod Messe Solenelle, Saint Saëns Oratorio de Noël, Schubert Mass in Eb Major), Geneseo Symphony Orchestra (selections from Phantom of the Opera) and Polymnia Choral Society (Schubert Mass in G Major), among others. Her favorite opera roles include Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro) with Boston Opera Collaborative and Greater Worcester Opera, Lucy Lockit (The Beggar’s Opera) with Emmanuel Music, The Rose (The Little Prince) with NEMPAC Opera Project, the title role in Alcina with Opera del West, Nannetta (Falstaff) with Emerald City Opera and four years of premieres in Boston Opera Collaborative’s annual festival of ten-minute operas: Opera Bites. www.carleydefranco.com

Ethan DePuy (Basilio)

Praised for his “masterful acting” and “fine singing,” tenor Ethan DePuy brings his unique dramatic style to works ranging from the Baroque era to now. His list of credits includes Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore, Peter Quint in The Turn of the Screw, Alfred in Die Fledermaus, the title role in Albert Herring, Don Basilio in Le nozze di Figaro, Jaquino in Fidelio, King Kaspar in Amahl and the Night Visitors, the Chevalier in Dialogues of the Carmelites, the Snake in The Little Prince, and Motel in Fiddler on the Roof. His engagements have included work with Chautauqua Opera, Charlottesville Opera, Opera Sacra, Arizona State Lyric Opera Theater, Odyssey Opera, Brevard Music Center, and the Western New York Chamber Orchestra. A native of Rochester, NY, Ethan has appeared as soloist on several commercially released albums, including James Kallembach’s Most Sacred Body (Gothic) and Jeremy Gill’s Before the Wresting Tides (BMOP/sound).

Carina DiGianfilippo (Susanna)

Soprano, Carina DiGianfilippo, praised by The Boston Globe for her “winsome” voice and hailed a “vision” by the Theatre Times, is excited to return to BOC for her third season. Most recently, she placed first in the Concorso Internazional Rolando Nicolosi competition in Italy. This past year, she has performed as a young artist with the Opera Company of Middlebury in Vermont, as Adele in MassOpera’s Die Fledermaus, and as a guest artist with the Xi’an Symphony Orchestra in China, singing Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Miss DiGianfilippo travelled to China during the 2017-2018 season as well with the iSing! International Young Artist Festival, performing in concerts at venues including the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and Beijing National Theater. As a young artist, Miss DiGianfilippo has also sung with Opera Maine and the Natchez Festival of Music in Mississippi, where she performed as Queen Guinevere in Camelot. Marissa Dyer (Barbarina/Peasant Girl)

Marissa Dyer is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Opera Performance at The Longy School of Music of Bard College. Favorite past roles include Monica in The Medium, Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls and Hope Harcourt in Anything Goes. As a concert soloist, Marissa has performed in Elvis Costello’s The Juliet Letters, Monteverdi 1610 Vespers with Analog Choral, Handel’s Messiah with the Idaho Civic Symphony and Bach’s G Minor Mass with the Portneuf Chamber music ensemble. Internationally, Marissa toured England and Scotland with the Idaho State Chamber Choir and performed with the Si Parla Si Canta opera program in Italy. Marissa is a passionate performer and teacher and enjoys sharing her love for music with others. She currently studies with Dana Lynne Varga.

Mitch FitzDaniel (Figaro)

Mitch FitzDaniel, baritone, is a Boston-based singer originally from the central coast of California. In May of 2017 he received his Master of Music from Boston University, where he was featured as the Baritone in the BU Opera Institute’s production of Philip Glass’ Hydrogen Jukebox and sang various ensemble and comprimario roles during the ’15-’16 and ’16-’17 seasons. Mr. FitzDaniel has performed with the Boston Opera Collaborative on several occasions, appearing in Dangerous Liaisons, Opera Bites, and as Schaunard in their recent La Boheme. Mr. FitzDaniel is also an enthusiastic advocate and interpreter of contemporary American art song, having sung for the New Music on the Point Festival in Vermont, Fall Island Vocal Arts Seminar, and as a featured performer for the Boston Art Song Society. Mr. FitzDaniel currently resides in Boston, where he continues his studies under James Demler.

Emily Harmon (Marcellina)

Mezzo-soprano Emily Harmon has appeared with companies including Pittsburgh Festival Opera, Boston Opera Collaborative, MassOpera, and the Worcester Youth Symphony Orchestra. Later this season, Emily will play Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd with Lowell House Opera and the Longwood Players. She recently appeared with Central City Opera as an Apprentice Artist, covering and performing the role of Suzuki in Madama Butterfly. Various past roles include Amastre (Xerxes), the Marquise de Merteuil (The Dangerous Liaisons), Dido (Dido and Aeneas), and the Old Lady (Candide). In concert, Emily has performed the alto solos in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Handel's Messiah, and Mozart's Requiem.

Stephanie Hollenberg (Cherubino)

Soprano Stephanie Hollenberg is thrilled to return to BOC, making her role debut as Cherubino.  Stephanie has performed the roles of Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Papagena (Die Zauberflöte), and an Esprit (Cendrillon) with Music Academy International in Italy.  In New England, Stephanie was selected as “Audience Favorite” at BarnOpera’s 2019 Competition, and has appeared as Leonora (The Beautiful Bridegroom, MetroWest Opera), covered Zerlina (Don Giovanni, NEMPAC), and performed in several productions of BOC’s Opera Bites: Rapture (Wolf), Sunshine Girl (Wilson), Misfortune (Kendrick).  A devotee of art song, Stephanie is also an avid recitalist.  Stephanie received her MM in Vocal Performance from The Longy School of Music and presently studies with Jeanne-Michèle Charbonnet.

Qiuyu Li (Countess)

Soprano Qiuyu Li, a native of Chinese, is currently completing her Master's degree in Vocal Performance at the Longy School of Music of Bard College. She obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance from the Tianjin Conservatory of Music in China. Her recent performances include a solo appearance in the Operatica concert with the Longy orchestra and Countess in a Le Nozze di Figaro scene with Longy. At the Tianjin Conservatory, she performed many scenes from the operatic repertory, including the roles of Mimì from La Bohème, Lucia from Lucia di Lammermoor and Tosca. Qiuyu Li is a student of Dana Lynne Varga.

Chao Ma (Curzio)

Tenor Chao Ma studied in China at the Tianjin Conservatory of Music. Currently he is pursuing his Masters degree at the Longy School of Music, where he studies with Dana Lynne Varga. He won the gold medal in China's radio and television "youth style" song contest, and third prize in the classic song competition of "appreciate the motherland and feel the classics" in Tianjin. In 2016, he won the third prize of the Hong Kong international vocal music open competition. He performed in several opera scenes last semester, and this semester will perform the role of Samuel in the opera Three Sisters Who Are Not Sisters. He is thrilled to be a part of this production of Figaro!

Todd McNeel (Bartolo/Figaro Cover)

Todd McNeel, Jr. (Bartolo) is thrilled to make his Boston Opera Collaborative debut with such a fun and innovative piece. Recent credits include Tuck Everlasting (Umbrella Stage Company), Freedom Ride (MassOpera), Pagliacci (Boston Lyric Opera), Assassins (Arts After Hours), Ragtime (Wheelock Family Theatre and The Company Theatre), 1776 (New Repertory Theatre), Porgy and Bess (Princeton Opera), Little Women (MassOpera), Coal Creek (Hartford Opera Theatre), Brother Nat (Emerson Paramount Theatre), and Turandot (Cincinnati Opera). Most recently he was awarded the prestigious Emerging Talent Artist award from the Kurt Weill Foundation/Lotte Lenya Competition for his performances in opera and musical theatre. Andrew Miller (Count)

American Baritone, Andrew Miller, is known for his "warm, robust baritone" and "fine comic sensibilities". Andrew made his BOC debut as Vicomte de Valmont in The Dangerous Liaisons. Previous credits include: Escamillo with Opera Theater Cape Cod; Fiorello with Boston Midsummer Opera; Hannah before and Marcello with Boston Opera Collaborative; The Inquisitor with Odyssey Opera; Ogre and Dr. Rappaccini with OperaHub; Don Pizarro, Don Magnifico and Alcindoro/Benoit with NEMPAC Boston; The Steward, The Marquis, Antonio, Schaunard, and Papageno with The Boston Conservatory; The Marquis at Teatro Magnani in Fidenza, Italy; Beethoven 9 soloist with New Hampshire Philharmonic; Mozart and Brahms Requiem soloist; the title roles of Don Giovanni and Gianni Schicchi, King Melchior and multiple engagements with the Janiec Opera Company and Fort Worth Opera. Andrew trained as a young artist at the Brevard Music Festival, and at The Boston Conservatory at Berklee. Andrew is a native of Arlington, TX.

Assumpta Munsi (Barbarina/Peasant Girl)

Assumpta Munsi is a multifaceted soprano from Nuremberg, Germany. She is currently completing her Master of Music in Opera at Longy School of Music of Bard College with Karyl Ryczek. Recently, she was named as the First Prize Winner of the college division at the 2018 Classical Idol Competition. Ms. Munsi is also the recipient of the Nancy Peery Marriott Scholarship and the Giustina M. Brosio Memorial Scholarship.

She began her musical education as a violinist at the age of 3. As a child she participated in children’s chorus, ballet, and viola & piano lessons. At the young age of 11, she stood on the opera stage of the Staatstheater Nuremberg as a soloist, dancer, and chorus member. Ms. Munsi received her Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from die Hochschule für Musik Nürnberg under the tutelage of Professor Arno Leicht. After earning her bachelors, she completed an independent study of Italian in Milan.

Veronica Nguyen (Cherubino Cover)

Veronica Nguyen is a Boston-based mezzo-soprano. Originally from Texas, Veronica earned her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance at Long Island University Post in Brookville, NY and is now working on her Master of Music in Opera at Longy School of Music. Last season’s highlights include playing Paride in Paride ed Elena with Longy Opera and making her professional opera debut with Opera51 as Mercédès in Carmen. This season she is covering Cherubino in Boston Opera Collaborative’s The Marriage of Figaro, playing Dido in Dido and Aeneas with Longy Opera, and will be in the chorus of The Firebrand of Florence with Emmanuel Music. 

Tatum Robertson (Countess Cover)

Tatum Robertson, soprano, hails from New Orleans, Louisiana. Ms. Robertson is currently pursuing her Master's at Longy School of Music of Bard College. Later this season, Ms. Robertson can be seen as Dido in Longy Opera Studio’s production of Dido & Aeneas. This season, she appeared as Sylvie from Dan Shore’s Freedom Ride in Mass Opera’s November 2019 gala. In 2018, Ms. Robertson returned to NPR's From the Top as a featured guest on their 2018 annual gala show. Ms. Robertson graduated with her Bachelor's of Music from the Juilliard School in 2013. She attended Aspen Music Festival in the summers of 2015 and 2016.

Abby Mae Rogers (Susanna Cover)

Soprano Abby Mae Rogers is a dedicated young singer working towards her M.M. in Opera Performance at Longy School of Music, where she studies with Ms. Angela Gooch. Abby Mae made her Boston debut with Emmanuel Music last spring in their production of Britten's The Beggar's Opera, where she covered the role of Polly Peachum and sang in the ensemble as one of Macheath's hussies. This is Abby Mae's first time working with Boston Opera Collaborative, and she is excited that she will be featured again in March in their annual Opera Bites. Some of her recent roles with Longy School of Music include Elena (cover) in Gluck's Paride ed Elena, and Lisa in Kálmán's Countess Maritza.

Marcus Schenck (Bartolo)

Marcus Schenck is a Boston-based bass-baritone. Recent engagements include Alessio and Count Rodolfo cover (La sonnambula) with Promenade Opera Project, The King (The Little Prince) with NEMPAC Opera Project, the workshop premiere of Mr. Twister and the Tale of Tornado Alley by Marc Hoffeditz in the title role, Basilio cover and Ambrogio (The Barber of Seville) with Raylynmor Opera, Mr. Kofner (The Consul) creating the role of Gerald Macguire (War is a Racket), and Le Gouverneur (Le comte Ory) with Lowell House Opera. In August 2017, he co-founded the Promenade Opera Project and serves as the Executive and Artistic Director. Marcus earned his Master of Music in Voice Performance at the Boston Conservatory (’19) and his Bachelor of Music from Bucknell University (’16). Following this production, he will be singing Chorus in Norma with Boston Lyric Opera.

Jennifer Soloway (Countess)

Lyric coloratura soprano, Jennifer Soloway, is a native of Marietta, Georgia (just outside Atlanta) and has performed with The Boston Conservatory, Oklahoma City University Bass School of Music, University of Miami Frost School of Music in Salzburg, Taos Opera Institute, and the Harrower Opera Institute at Georgia State University.

Her past operatic roles include Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier (2015), Emily in Our Town (2014), Rose in Street Scene (2013), Lucy in The Telephone (2011), and Rapunzel in Into the Woods (2013). Her musical endeavors in 2016 included performing the roles of Annina in La Traviata, Susanna in Le Nozze de Figaro, Stephanie in Jake Heggie’s To Hell and Back, and Morgana in Handel's Alcina.  Her most recent role was Cunegonda in Candide.

Ms. Soloway earned her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Oklahoma City University and her Master of Music in Opera Performance from The Boston Conservatory at Berklee under the tutelage of Rebecca Folsom.

Avery Sujkowski (Antonio)

Boston-based baritone Avery Sujkowski holds performance degrees from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee (MM) and Ohio Northern University (BM). Mr. Sujkowski makes his debut performance with Boston Opera Collaborative this season. 

 

Recent engagements include Alidoro (cvr) in La Cenerentola with Boston Midsummer Opera, Soloist/Toreador in Link Up: The Orchestra Moves with the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra, Assan in The Consul, Baritone in Hydrogen Jukebox, and Marquis de la Force in Dialogues des Carmélites with Boston Conservatory Opera. Mr. Sujkowski has also performed as a chorus member with Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras.

 

Other notable engagements include Guglielmo (cvr) in Così fan tutte with Boston Conservatory Opera, Don Giovanni (cvr) in Don Giovanni with International Young Artists Project, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte with University of Toledo Opera Ensemble, and chorus/guitarist in Il Barbiere di Siviglia with Boston Midsummer Opera. Additionally, Mr. Sujkowski's varied background in dance and guitar brings skillful versatility to the stage.

Susannah Thornton (Marcellina)

New England based mezzo-soprano Susannah Thornton is equally at home performing operatic roles and interpreting art song. While earning her undergraduate degree at the University of New Hampshire, Thornton performed the role of L'Enfant (Ravel, "L'Enfant et les Sortileges") as well as studying Hermia (Britten, "Midsummer Night's Dream"), Dorabella (Mozart, "Cosi fan Tutte"), and Cherubino (Mozart, "The Marriage of Figaro"). She graduated magna cum laude with a Master's of Music in Vocal Performance at the Longy School of Music of Bard College in 2016 where she studied with Carol Mastrodomenico. While at Longy, Thornton performed the roles of Miss Todd (Menotti, "The Old Maid and the Thief") and the mezzo roles in Argento's "Postcard from Morocco" with Longy Opera Workshop. In March 2016, Thornton performed as the alto soloist in a program of Schubert and M. Haydn as a winner of Rhode Island Civic Chorale and Orchestra's 10th Annual Collegiate Vocal Competition. She is a roster artist with Boston Opera Collaborative and performed the role of Suzy in Puccini's "La Rondine" in a new 'remixed' production during May 2017. She currently resides on the South Shore and serves as the alto section leader at Second Parish Unitarian Universalist in Hingham, Massachusetts.

Jessica Trainor Tasucu (Cherubino)

Mezzo-Soprano Jessica Trainor Taşucu is thrilled to make her company debut with Boston Opera Collaborative as Cherubino in The Marriage of Figaro. She will return to BOC in March 2020 for Opera Bites. Her 2020 season also includes appearing with the professional ensemble of Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras for their production of Verdi’s Aida.

 

Jessica will close out her 2019 season as Alto Soloist for Handel’s Messiah at Immaculate Conception Church in Easton, Massachusetts. Highlights from 2019 include a workshop of Dan Shore's Freedom Ride with Chicago Opera Theater (in conjunction with MassOpera). Major role debuts included Prince Charmant in Cendrillon (Massenet) with Opera del West, and Common Rose, in addition to covering the roles of Fox and Pilot, in The Little Prince (Rachel Portman) with NEMPAC Opera Project. Arita Acton (Viola)

Arita Acton is a native of Washington State with a passion for modern and historical performance on both viola and viol. She has a commitment to connecting the world of the past to the present through music performance and teaching.
 

 Arita has performed in concert halls from Vancouver to Boston and has won chamber music and concerto competitions throughout the northwestern United States. She holds music degrees from Wenatchee Valley College, Brigham Young University-Idaho and Longy School of Music of Bard College where she recently completed her Masters degree in Viola Performance with an emphasis in Historic Viol Performance.

Francesca Panuto (Bassoon)

Francesca began studying the bassoon at the age of 16. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Hawai'i, studying with Paul Barrett, in 2013. She went on to earn her master’s degree from the University of Massachusetts, studying with Stephen Walt, in 2015. Francesca played as the second bassoonist with the Sarajevo Philharmonic for the 2017-18 season. Francesca is currently pursuing a Doctoral degree at Boston University studying with Nancy Goeres.  In addition to her studies, Francesca is also an active free-lance bassoonist and contrabassoonist working both in Boston and throughout New England, performing a wide variety of music from large pop concerts to intimate chamber music settings. Francesca particularly enjoys working with composers to bring new music to life.

Olga Patramanskaya (First Violin)

​Olga Patramanska-Bell was born and raised in Ukraine, where she received her musical education. After finishing her Bachelor's degree at the R.M. Glier Kyiv State Higher Music College and studying a few years at the National Musical Academy of Ukraine, she came to Boston to continue her education at the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA. She received her Masters of Music degree under the guidance of Mr. Mark Lakirovich. Olga is an active performer and participant in numerous concerts, projects and festivals. She is a winner of Concerto competition and Honors competition at the Longy School of Music, and has performed as a soloist with the Longy Chamber Orchestra, National Pops Symphony Orchestra, and Philharmonia Orchestra in Ukraine. Olga is a winner of several competitions in Ukraine and has travelled through Europe performing solo recitals and playing in violin ensemble.

In addition to teaching violin at Winchester Community Music School, Olga is currently a member of Zefira trio, Grand Harmonie, and Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, and is an assistant member of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra and Symphony New Hampshire. Olga has performed with such groups as Boston New Music Initiative, Equilibrium Ensemble, Walden Chamber Music Players, ECCE ensemble, and Harvard Baroque Chamber Orchestra. She has served as a concertmaster for Boston Opera Collaborative, Harvard's Lowell House Opera, and Commonwealth Lyric Theater. This year's engagements include performances with Juventas New Music Ensemble and Sound Icon.

Jingduan Wang (Cello)

Jingduan Wang, a cellist from China. She studied with Li Wang and Bo Zhang who are teaching at Minzu University of China , after she graduated from MUC, she did her Master Degree at Longy School of Music of Bard College, study with Ole Akahoshi, who is a fantastic cellist until now. She focus on playing the classical music, and she also have some new challenges such as play new music. She had played ‘Encage Ensembel’ at Longy School of Music.

Jessica Wu (Flute)

Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Jessica Wu is a classically trained flutist. She is currently studying with Sergio Pallottelli at the Longy School of Music, where she is pursuing her Master of Music in Flute Performance. She received her Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Houston in 2018, with a specialization in Music Education and Applied Flute, the latter being under the tutelage of Peggy Russell. At Longy, Jessica is a Graduate Fellow for the Sistema Side-by-Side Program and the Margot Kittredge Memorial Scholar. Last summer, she had the opportunity to perform at Symphony Hall with the Kendall Square Orchestra.

Hsiu-Ping (Patrick) Wu (Second Violin)

Hsiu-Ping (Patrick) Wu is a Taiwanese-Canadian violinist and composer. Currently pursuing his Master of Violin Performance and Composition at Longy School of Music of Bard College with Sean Wang and Alexandra du Bois. Patrick holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Fountain School of Performing Arts, Dalhousie University. He previously studied the violin with I-Ching Li, Philippe Djokic, Mark Lee, and Leonardo Perez. Patrick has participated in music festivals such as the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra Camp, Scotia Festival of Music, National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra Camp, and has worked with renowned violinists such as James Ehnes, Giora Schmidt, Rachel Barton Pine, Scott and Laura St. John. In 2016, he served as concertmaster of the ESO under the baton of Wen-Chen Chuang in Taiwan.

 

As a composer, Patrick began studying composition in 2015 and has worked with composers such as: Jérôme Blais, Dinuk Wijeratne, David Ludwig, Andrew List, and Amy Beth Kirsten. Many of Patrick’s music were inspired by the styles of neo-romanticism and tone rows. His pieces has been premiered in Nocturne: Art at Night and Open Waters Festival in Canada, highSCORE Composition Festival in Italy, Zodiac Music Festival & Academy in France, Uzmah Upbeat Composition Program in Croatia, and most recently, Atlantic Music Festival in the United States.

 

Patrick currently performs on a 1924 Carlo Giuseppe Oddone violin from the Chimei Museum Foundation.

Jing Zhou (Clarinet)

Jing Zhou graduated from the music college of Shanxi University(China) with a bachelor's degree and music college at Shanxi university with a master's degree. She is now studying for a master's degree at Longy of music of Bard College. She studied under the master tutor Jia Liu of Shanxi University, the chief teacher Bo Yin of Beijing National Symphony Orchestra, and now she studies under Jonathan Cohler.

Mathieu D'Ordine: Arranger/Reduction
Arranger Mathieu D'Ordine specializes in chamber reductions for opera, and uses his arrangements to show his great passion for the artform. He has worked for a variety of companies, from the Boston Opera Collaborative to the Eklund Opera Program at CU Boulder. A cellist by training, Mathieu is a devoted advocate of music ranging from the 16th century the 21st. He is on the faculty of the Mt. Blanca Summer Music Conservatory in Alamosa, CO, teaching cello and music history. His current projects include an original libretto, orchestrating an opera by Cesar Cui, and launching his business website: IdealOpera.com.

Andy Nice: Scenic Designer

Andy Nice holds an M.F.A ​in Scenic Design from Boston University's School of Theatre, Boston, MA. She graduated with a bachelor's degree from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. Notable designs:  Cortland Repertory Theatre's SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE WEST END HORROR,  MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG (Astoria Performing Arts Center), the Boston University Opera Institute's DON GIOVANNI built by the Huntington Theatre Company, FAUSTE ET MARGUERITE (Boston Opera Collaborative)  ROCK OF AGES (Des Moines Playhouse), Boston Center for American Performance's THE EFFECT OF GAMMA RAYS ON MAN IN THE MOON MARIGOLDS and THE IMAGINARY INVALID at the Virginia Wimberly Theater in Boston's South End. Andy is resident scenic designer at Boston Opera Collaborative.
 

Chris Bocchiaro: Lighting Designer

Chris Bocchiaro is excited to return to Boston Opera Collaborative, having previously designed Albert Herring, Rinaldo, Our Town, Idomeneo, Family Feuds, Faust et Marguerite, and As One  Chris’ work can be seen throughout the greater Boston Area, most recently at: Actors’ Shakespeare Project, Hub Theatre of Boston, imaginary beasts, and Apollinaire Theatre. Chris was the recipient of the 2013 IRNE award for Hairy Tales. He holds a BFA in Theatre Design and Technology from Emerson College. www.chrisbocchiaro.com 



Bridgette Hayes: Costume Designer
Bridgette Hayes is a Boson-based actor, costume and properties designer, dramaturg, and teaching artist as well as an Artistic Associate at Bridge Repertory Theater.  Recent design credits include Die Fledermaus (MassOpera), The Beautiful Bridegroom and Miss Havisham's Wedding Night (MetroWest Opera), Albert Herring (BU Opera Institute), Fidelio (NEMPAC), Stop Kiss (Boston Conservatory at Berklee), Los Meadows (Boston Public Works), Mrs. Packard (Bridge Repertory Theater), and The Real Thing (Bad Habit Productions).  Recent acting credits include Tiny Tim's Christmas Carol (Greater Boston Stage Company), Men on Boats (SpeakEasy Stage), First Love is the Revolution (Apollinaire Theater), Dog Paddle, Julius Caesar (Bridge Rep), An Octoroon (Company One / Arts Emerson).  Bridgette studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts and received a BFA in Acting from Boston University. She is pursuing a Masters in Dramatic Arts at Harvard University.  

Carmen Catherine Alfaro: Master Electrician
Carmen Catherine Alfaro (she/her/hers) is a Boston-based, disabled, Latina theatrical electrician and stage manager with a passion for new and contemporary work that is socially conscious and diverse, both onstage and at the tech table. Favorite recent credits include Vanity Fair (Master Electrician, Central Square Theatre), Aida (ASM 2, Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra), Fellow Travelers (Production Assistant, Boston Lyric Opera), Pagliacci (PA, BLO), Miss You Like Hell (Stage Manager, Company One). Kenny Burt: Technical Director
Kenny is the Director of Technical Theater at Beaver Country Day School, where he teaches technical design & production as well as serving at their resident Scenic, Lighting & Sound designer.  As a freelance designer he has worked with a variety of companies and schools including the Inly School, Fresh Inc, Boston Opera Hub, Bridgewater State University and Dean College. In production he has worked with several companies including Trinity Rep, Seattle Rep and Brown University. Kenny is a graduate of  Bridgewater State University’s Theatre Arts program

Sebastian Espinosa: Production Manager
Sebastian Espinosa is a Boston based actor, lighting designer, and musician. His past theatrical credits include Silla (Cambridge Chamber Ensemble), Hot Mikado (Belmont Dramatic Club), and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (Arlington Friends of the Drama).  He has toured England, Spain, France, and Germany with various choirs and was the only undergraduate soloist of WPI’s performance of Sir James MacMillan’s  Seven Last Words from the Cross. His future work includes Opera Bites as production manager and Dances Princesses: A Riot Grrrl Fairy Tale as music director and composer.

Kelsey Whipple: Stage Manager
Kelsey Whipple is thrilled to be working with BOC on this production! Other credits include: Mountain Language (PSM, Theatre on Fire), The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, Steel Magnolias, The Clearing, Peter and the Starcatcher (Hub Theatre Company, ASM), The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), Pride and Prejudice, Much Ado About Nothing (Actors’ Shakespeare Project, ASM). She is a graduate from Suffolk University with a BA in theater and an arts administration minor. 

Celia Liu: Assistant Stage Manager
Pianist Chang Liu, originally from Dalian, China, is a named scholar by Sandra and David Bakalar at Longy. Chang is currently pursuing a Graduate Performance diploma in Collaborative Piano at Longy Scholar of Music of Bard College under Wayman Chin’s studio. In 2018, she finished her Master Degree in Piano Performance at Longy after she achieved her Undergraduate Diploma and studied with Rieko Aizawa.

David Mather: Assistant Stage Manager
David Thomas Mather is a baritone pursuing his Masters in Historical Performance at the Longy School of Music. He has coached roles with opera composers Bright Sheng, Christopher Theofanidis, and Mark Adamo, and performed in masterclass settings for Marla Mendele, Laura Bell Bundy, Alice Ripley, and Laura Osnes in musical theater. His most recent credits include singing in Verdi’s Aida with the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra, Boston Camerata’s tour of the Play of Daniel, and Carmina Burana under the baton of Donald Runnicles through the Grand Teton Festival Chorus and the Utah Symphony. This is his first stage management experience.
